The second 200th anniversary issue of Maska – the avant-garde 200bb – is here. It is the second issue of a trio of journals, which also celebrate 100 years since the first publication of Maska.
Despite the general crisis caused by the coronavirus, which has particularly affected the cultural sector, forcing the it to pause or drastically adjust its plans, we are trying to celebrate Masika’s Jubilee in the most lively, socially accessible way possible, given the circumstances.
The essence of the performing arts, including its theory, has always been in closeness. For this reason we tried to come together as much as possible between 9 and 11 September, when we marked the anniversary with the international conference Self-management or Precarity?, for which we partnered with Indigo Festival. We invited an international array of theorists who are in one way or another close to Maska or its mission, and who come from the former Yugoslav space but are now displaced around the world, to join us for three days of discussion and socialising. In addition to Maska’s latest original project The Game, created by Žiga Divjak and his team, we also premiered Parquet Ball/Above the Parquet by Mateja Bučar. It is the realisation of one of the 64 projects conceived in 2006 for Maska’s 100th issue for the time of her 200th issue in 2023. During this period, this time has come earlier, due to the general acceleration. We hope that the realisation of Matja Bučar’s project will be the first of many to come.
