Mala Kline: ALPHA PURE 2006 > ELIAS 2069: BODIES OF ELIAS

In 2006, in response to an invitation from Maska to present a projection of what she would be doing as an artist in 2023, Mala Kline wrote CODEXXXI: ALPHA PURE, which included a chapter that entirely predicted the creation of the ELIAS Institute, unknowingly writing a prophecy. It is now 2023 and everything written and more has come true.

For Now is Here!, ELIAS will open its doors and “present” itself as a living being, an autonomous dream field, an energetic constellation in the making, a beacon of evolving consciousness, a place of transformation, a host of what is not yet, but is coming, an open invitation, an oracle, a shrine resting on a flower of light. A place where questions can be asked, answers received, intentions manifested and actions created. After lunch, there will be a presentation of ELIAS 2069, a presentation of Charles Eisenstein’s book The Sacred Economy, which describes the value system and core practices of the Institute, and the ritual performance For Rijeka. In a one-day exhibition, the artists-in-residence will share everything that has happened to them during their residency that has been meaningful to them – and with potential for experimentation. The event will thus consist of traces of different people, entities, creative projects or transformative processes that took place in the dream field of the Elias Institute.

Visitors are invited to take their time to arrive, walk around the building and its wild surroundings, and flow through coincidental encounters with what is there and with each other.

The artist’s original proposal from 2006.

Jaka Bombač

If you look at the description and image of the ELIAS project, which the choreographer and philosopher Mala Kline has been working on over the last seventeen years, in the spirit emerging from the last few years, (these) initials can quickly get mixed up (sAIle, something with artificial intelligence), while they probably stood in their place in 2006, when you were still a greenhorn, when you still believed the earth was still green, waiting for the time when they could dance through the friction of interpretations. Perhaps the initials are not to blame here, but your perception and your bilious feeling of the current era (not 2006) as an era of
revelations, conclusions, dissensions, chaos –

S A I L E. Each subjectivity carries within itself a shady side, its negation, which manifests not only in the other, but also in you as the other, in your dreams. In her shows, performances and other projects, including her dream research laboratory (DREAMLAB), Mala Kline explores this fundamental otherness, which is becoming the only remaining refuge for dreamers in the world of tireless practical empiricism. Her dance, performance and philosophical careers merge into the question of what appears when it has not yet happened. In this context, the question – do letters actually dance or is this merely my interpretation –
loses its meaning, fades away. It would only make sense if my interpretation was the only reality: Sensory AI Lab for Enaction is caught in the naive construction of the autopoietic process as always active and never passive, thus my interpretation detaches itself from its effect on others and becomes a pure interpretation.

ELIAS, however, in contrast to the reductionist scientific-experimental logic embodied by SAILE, appears as a profanation of the naive concept of interpretation, as a perversion of the academic genre of research, as a space in which interpretations can be ruined before they even arrive.
