The installations of Živa Božičnik Rebec, Mateja Bučar  and Neja Zorzut will be on display every Tuesday and Thursday from 6.10.2022 until the end of the month between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

The object of the container – icon, pictogram, or “the black box of globalisation”, which organises 90 % of the total goods economy – points to the relationship between economic effectiveness of global currents of goods traffic, the standardisation of container infrastructure, and abstraction. The containerized liner shipping services are namely mostly effective simply because only 20 % of the container content is known. The curated cycle will tackle the topic a little more broadly: as a reflection of the container system that structures and codes literally everything in its domain, changes the world into a mobile warehouse and organises it in standardised mobile units of space, replaceable processes and measurable time (Klose 2015, 6), with which it popularises any given content and enables a global standardisation.

Coming from two art disciplines, theatre and visuals, the curators of the series base their collaboration on the reflection of how to open possibilities for the theatre and visual arts to meet, as they believe that such a dialogue enables a necessary questioning of the frontiers of each of the media.

They have invited three artists – Živa Božičnik Rebec, Mateja Bučar, and Neja Zorzut – to create individual events/installations acting either as a repetitive performative event, as an installation on display during opening hours, or as both at the same time. The materials will be gathered cumulatively and co-presented in the containers in front of the New Post Office. Secondly, a series of discursive events will attempt a sensible reflection on the position of art in society and on the new mechanisms in art, as well as open the history of the container system, which enabled a standardisation of the goods traffic and the global economy mid-20th century.

Projects

Živa Božičnik Rebec: Full-filter Ghostriders

Installation Živa Božičnik Rebec’s project is situated on the reference field of researching what an ontological object has/can have, ontogenesis, and the relationship of objects to their environment/exterior.

Mateja Bučar: House Rules

Installation/ performance Contemporary life is subject to certain actions, patterns and repetitive movements of objects and bodies, which can also be considered through (the concept of) choreography. Similarly to the content of containers, these scenarios are not completely visible and clear; we could say that contemporary life is full of hidden and opaque choreographies.

Neja Zorzut: Ebb

Installation On the one hand, the piece by Neja Zorzut is positioned in the tradition of exploring the painting medium, which has, since minimalism, been marked by a rejection of (self)limiting to opticity and, through this, an elimination of clear borders between painting and sculpture. On the other hand, Zorzut tackles adaptation, demise, and violence.
